About This Place

Morucci's Si Mangia Bene, nestled in the heart of Walnut Creek, CA, is a deli and sandwich shop that truly lives up to its name—“Si Mangia Bene” or “Yes, You Eat Well.” Specializing in delectable Italian and classic American-style sandwiches, this local gem offers a vibrant culinary experience defined by fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere that echoes the lively spirit of a traditional New York deli.

At the core of Morucci's menu are its specialty sandwiches, brilliantly crafted to satisfy any craving. The standout #1 Italian Sub is a symphony of salami, mortadella, hot coppa, and provolone cheese layered generously on a chewy Ciabatta roll, accompanied by shredded lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and peppers, all coated with a zesty Italian dressing—choose mustard or pesto to personalize every bite. Equally enticing is the #00 Oven Roasted Turkey, praised for its tender, juicy slices served on a recommended wheat roll, perfectly balancing hearty and wholesome flavors.

For those who love customization, Morucci’s DIY sandwiches let you build just the way you like, from creamy egg salad to savory mesquite chicken breast, pulled pork to classic corned beef—each option priced reasonably and prepared with meticulous care. Breakfast offerings such as the smoked salmon Bagel With Lox and Cream Cheese provide a fresh, bold start to the day with a luscious combination of cream cheese, tomatoes, crisp cucumber, red onions, and capers on a toasted bagel, an homage to timeless deli traditions.

Beyond the sandwiches, Morucci’s commitment to quality shines. They pair their meals with an impressive variety of Kettle Brand chips, which customers have delightedly noted come in every flavor imaginable, and fresh mozzarella that adds creamy indulgence to any order. The café also serves robust coffee and refreshing beverages like mineral water and classic cola, rounding out an excellent casual dining experience.

Step inside, and you'll find a relaxed yet bustling atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. The deli vibe is unmistakable—friendly, efficient, and alive with the aroma of fresh bread baked daily and savory meats sliced to order. Reviewers frequently mention the fast service, especially during lunchtime rushes, although it's worth arriving early or after peak hours to enjoy quicker order placement and some quiet. When busy, Morucci’s dedication to customer satisfaction still shines through, with staff doing their best to manage demand during their occasional “pause” on orders.

Customers rave about the hearty portion sizes that make each visit satisfying and worthwhile, and many confess to favorites such as the tri-tip sandwich and the turkey Reuben—both packed with flavor and served on freshly baked bread that truly elevates the sandwich experience. The freshness of ingredients combined with an authentic deli charm keeps locals and visitors coming back for more.

Whether you’re craving a classic Italian sub, a customized sandwich loaded with your preferred fixings, or a fulfilling breakfast bagel, Morucci's Si Mangia Bene offers an inviting neighborhood spot where quality, flavor, and genuine warmth meet. It’s a culinary haven for sandwich lovers seeking a taste of traditional deli mastery with a California twist.

I came here around 3pm so I was able to place my order quickly. This is a deli so the atmosphere was as expected. There is indoor & outdoor seating. I think they had every flavor of Kettle chips imaginable. Unexpectedly, they had Semifreddis products, which I love.

Got the tri tip sandwich. The bread is great. Around $10 a sandwich which the portion size isn't bad at all. I would definitely go back and try something different. My husband ordered the turkey Reuben and I would like to try that one next. Waited for ten minutes and it was super busy at lunch. Not bad.

Reminiscent of a New York deli. First time they took my in person order right away and it was ready in a reasonable amount of time. It was delicious. Second visit they were overwhelmed. They did what they called was a "pause" and stopped taking in person and online orders. I waited the better part of 20 minutes and still hadn't been able to just place my order in person and neither could the people ahead of me or behind me. I was really hungry but I had to go and couldn't wait any longer. So disappointing. The third time I tried them I got my in person order in after they took a pause in orders again. I waited patiently like everyone else. There was a line out the door at one point. When I finally got my order and got a chance to eat it, I find that even though I made the ext same order as the first time, it was not prepared the same way and while it tasted good, it wasn't as great as the way it was made the first time. Also disappointing. While I waited to receive my order another waiting customer made the similar comments. It's like they are victims of their own success and can't figure out how to consistently maintain the quality and the they can't adjust their staffing during peak demand to handle the rush. Wish they could figure this all out and deliver delicious fresh consistent quality per their menu.

My favorite place in the Bay Area for delicious sandwiches!! They have some of the best and freshest options for toppings whether it’s for a sandwich or a side the food here never disappoints! I’d suggest going early and don’t go before 3, the later you go the chances are they are either sold out or put things away to prep for closing. The line can be crazy out the door but it’s worth the wait, every second! Been going here for years and the #2 is my favorite!
